Mingus Reedus, 22, appears in court on assault charges

Norman Reedus and Helena Christensen’s model son Mingus, 22, appears in court on assault charges for ‘punching woman in the face at NYC street festival’: Lawyer insists prosecutors have ‘no credible evidence’ as case is delayed due to COVID backlog

  • Mingus Reedus, 22, son of model Helena Christensen and ‘The Walking Dead’ star Norman Reedus, was seen on Wednesday in Manhattan Criminal Court
  • On September 24, the runway model was accused of punching an unknown woman in the face at Manhattan’s San Gennaro street festival
  • Reedus’ attorney, Isabelle Kirschner, told DailyMail.com that the charges against him were ‘baseless’ and were backed by ‘no credible evidence’
  • Mingus told the New York Daily News that he ‘threw his arm out’ that day, accidentally striking the woman, in a bid to protect himself
  • The 24-year-old who he struck, he said, was one of a group of ‘girls under the influence and looking for a fight’ who followed him and his group
  •  They were ‘throwing food and yelling’ and threatening his girlfriend, he said,  and one woman grabbed his hair while another poured water on his face
  • Police who arrested him saw the woman, who was hospitalized for a cut under her left eye, and ‘refused to listen to the context’
  • Reedus appeared to be wearing the same tailored brown suit that he wore to his last court appearance on November 23

The son of supermodel Helena Christensen and ‘The Walking Dead’ star Norman Reedus appeared briefly in Manhattan Criminal Court today on assault charges before his case was adjourned and rescheduled for March 16.

Runway model Mingus Reedus, 22, was charged with misdemeanor assault on September 24 after he allegedly punched a 24-year-old, female stranger in the face following an altercation at Manhattan’s San Gennaro street festival.

His attorney Isabelle Kirschner, who was seen alongside her client before the pair entered the courtroom, told DailyMail.com that the allegation was ‘baseless.’

‘I believe that based on the evidence, there is no credible evidence to support the charges,’ Kirschner said.

Mingus, who lives in Chelsea, appeared to be wearing the same slim, tailored brown suit he wore to his previous court appearance on November 23. Like his last appearance, he wore an untucked white dress shirt and polished brown dress shoes.

Towering over Kirschner and photographers, the model’s surgical mask was blue rather than black this time, and red and white patterned socks rather than blue ones.

But Kirschner said ‘nothing’ happened in court today, and that the case was quickly adjourned due to the backlog of court cases caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

‘There are 80 cases that get adjourned every day as matter of course,’ she explained to DailyMail.com. ‘Misdemeanors have always taken a very long time to resolve. They get resolved without a trial… getting trials for a misdemeanor is difficult, getting trials during a pandemic is harder.’

Mingus – who has followed in the footsteps of his mother, an original Victoria’s Secret angel, was taken into custody following the September incident. His purported victim was hospitalized with a cut under her left eye, according to the NYPD.

After the incident, Mingus told the New York Daily News that the woman was one of a ‘girls under the influence and looking for a fight’ that ‘swarmed’ him, and that the police officers who arrested him ‘refused to listen to the context.’

Just like mom! Mingus is a model in his own right, who has walked the runway for some of the world’s leading labels

Mingus said the women followed him and his friends for two blocks, ‘throwing food at [them] and yelling.’

‘We told them to leave us alone, but they kept following, threatening to hurt my girlfriend and her friend.’

When the group reached the corner of Mulberry and Grand Streets, Mingus told the Daily News, the women set  upon him, with ‘one pulling my hair from the back, another throwing water in my face.’

He said he ‘threw his arm out’ to protect himself, accidentally hitting the woman.

‘It was instinct,’ he explained. ‘I was reacting to them swarming me and was afraid for the safety of my group.’

The incident came just one week after Mingus made his Vogue cover debut.

He was featured on the cover of the Vogue Hommes Paris’ fall-winter 2021-2022 issue alongside Parker Van Noord, son of the late male model Andre Van Noord.

Christensen and Reedus – who is best known for his role in The Walking Dead-  began dating in 1998. Mingus was born the following year.

The high-profile couple split in 2003, before Reedus went on to date Diane Kruger.

Reedus and Kruger welcomed their own child together, a daughter, in 2018.

Mingus is Christensen’s only child.

The Danish supermodel frequently shares snaps on social media showing the close bond she has with her son, who has been modelling since 2017.

Mingus has walked the runway for both Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger.  He also appeared alongside Naomi Campbell at London Fashion Week last year.

Back in April, he starred alongside his mom in a Victoria’s Secret Mother’s Day campaign.

In an accompanying video, Christensen says of motherhood: ‘What a crazy, beautiful journey it’s been…  It’s the best thing ever … [You] think about life from a completely different perspective. ‘
