Lord Ashcroft’s daughter-in-law released then re-arrested after cop shot dead

BILLIONAIRE Lord Ashcroft’s daughter-in-law was last night released then re-arrested after a cop was shot dead on a tropical island.

Jasmine Hartin was questioned after Supt Henry Jemmott, 42, was shot in the head on a beach in Belize.

Canadian Hartin, 32 — married to Lord Ashcroft’s son Andrew — was allegedly found with blood on her clothes and hands and in a distressed state last week.

A post mortem confirmed the gunshot wound to the back of the cop’s head was the result of a homicide — and was not an accident or suicide, reports said.

Suspects there can be held for 48 hours without charge. She was briefly freed before being arrested again, reports said.

The Death in Paradise-style shooting on an island off the town of San Pedro last Friday came after the dad of five and Hartin had been drinking together despite a Covid curfew.

Hartin reportedly claimed he was shot from a passing boat. Jemmott’s sister Marie denied he was in a relationship with Hartin.

She added: “He liked the (Ashcroft) family and would do anything for them.”

Hartin heads a luxury hotel company with Andrew, 43.

They have two children together.

Former Tory deputy chairman Lord Ashcroft has Belize citizenship and is highly influential in the Central American country — but police insist this will have no impact on their investigation.
