The third season of Yellowstone wrapped up last month leaving John Dutton and his family on the brink of collapse. Now all-out war on Dutton Ranch has been declared in the Paramount series, when season four finally arrives some perceptive viewers might have guessed the death of yet another major character.

Episode ten, The World Is Purple, concluded with a devastating hit on John Dutton (played by Kevin Costner) and his family.

With the fates of Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes) uncertain heading into season four, Yellowstone could be about to lose some key cast members.

Meanwhile, the latter half of the Western drama’s latest instalment also saw ranch hand Jimmy (Jefferson White) get in over his head with Mia (Eden Brolin) and the barrel racers.

Barrel racing is a particularly dangerous form of competitive rodeo, and Jimmy is still recuperating from a nasty injury obtained near the start of season three.

However, the finale saw Jimmy’s girlfriend Mia try and persuade the reckless ranch hand to return to the world of rodeo, which could spell trouble for him in season four.

Mia and the barrel racers have been a point of contention for many Yellowstone fans, with some members of the audience convinced Jimmy is needlessly putting himself at risk.

The latest developments in the season finale may have signed his death warrant if Jimmy continues to pursue his dreams of risky horseback riding in the next instalment.

Viewers took to Reddit to propose it could actually be Jimmy who gets killed when Yellowstone returns, as opposed to the three Duttons who were targeted in the finale’s last moments.

Redditor Adventurerinmymind made a bold prediction and posted: “It’s Jimmy. He’s the one who dies.

“I like him but he’s so effing stupid with these barrel racers. If we have to sacrifice Jimmy to get rid of them, so be it.”

Meanwhile, other fans are eager for the show to get rid of the barrel racers, which many perceive as a weaker aspect of the latest season when compared to the riveting family drama.

One fan replied: “That whole rodeo thing with him was so contrived anyway.”

Although the three main Duttons’ deaths appeared to be on the cards at the end of season three, John Dutton managed to escape with his life thanks to his conveniently placed cell phone.

Additionally, it’s possible his son Kayce may have been able to evade the approaching gunmen, although most fans agreed Beth was most likely killed by the explosive package delivered to her office.

However, some fans have proposed the premiere of season four could take an unexpected turn when Yellowstone returns next year.

Another fan said: “I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that none of the Duttons died/die. The show doesn’t really work without any of them, for now.”

Thankfully, Paramount have indeed renewed Yellowstone for season four, which is assumed to be eyeing a summer 2021 release date.

Anticipation is running high, so fans will have to wait for the next thrilling instalment to discover which of the Duttons will survive for another season.

Yellowstone is available to watch on Paramount.
