Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden) has been harbouring a huge secret in EastEnders, as he’s been left fully deaf after a dodgy deal went awry, but he finds himself in trouble in the coming episodes, as he collapses — leaving Jay Brown (Jamie Borthwick) fearing for his pal’s wellbeing.
Ben was devastated when he learned that his operation had been postponed earlier this year, and therefore he sought a distraction in the dodgy job that Phil (Steve McFadden) was due to carry out with Danny (Paul Usher).
However, on the night in question, Danny discovered Ben’s presence at the warehouse, and took revenge by shooting a gun nearby — which resulted in the young man writhing in pain.
Afterwards, it became apparent to the viewers that Ben couldn’t hear anything, but he’s kept this information to himself thus far.
Upcoming scenes will see him continue to battle a fever, which results in Callum (Tony Clay) giving him some strong medication before heading off.
However, with the operation around the corner, Ben is determined not to tell anyone about how unwell he is feeling.
Later, Jay arrives, but — with Ben having kept shtum about his fever — he is left shocked when his mate collapses.
Will he find out what else Ben is hiding?
It would appear so, as — later — when Ben finally does wake up, he admits that he can’t hear anything, and thus Jay demands that he go to hospital.
Will he do so?
EastEnders airs these scenes Tuesday 16 June at 7:30pm on BBC One.
