Small Axe and The Cave Complete Winners List of 2021 Peabody Awards

The Steve McQueen-created anthology series and the Oscar-nominated Syrian crisis film join ‘Ted Lasso’, ‘The Good Lord Bird’ and Michaela Coel’s acclaimed drama ‘I May Destroy You’.

AceShowbiz -The Peabody Awards panel has revealed its complete list of winners, adding Steve McQueen’s anthology series “Small Axe” and Oscar-nominated Syrian crisis film “The Cave” to the the year’s most compelling and empowering TV and streaming moments.

The two latest additions to a group that also includes “Ted Lasso“, Michaela Coel‘s acclaimed drama “I May Destroy You“, and “The Good Lord Bird” were announced on Thursday, June 24 to conclude four days of recognition for media and broadcast highlights from the past year.

A total of 30 awards were handed out by scholars at the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Georgia. Cynthia Erivo, Soledad O’Brien, Ronan Farrow, Taraji P. Henson, America Ferrera, John Seigenthaler, Karl-Anthony Towns and Goldie Hawn were among the presenters.

Other winners announced on Thursday included LGBTQ rights documentary “Welcome to Chechnya”.

The full list of picks also features Oscar-nominated “Time”, Netflix’s “Crip Camp” and “Immigration Nation”, Disney Channel’s “The Owl House“, and Apple TV+’s “Stillwater“.

“Ted Lasso” and “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” were unveiled to be the winners in the Entertainment category on June 21. Co-creator Jason Sudeikis said in his acceptance speech, “We hope that we can all put a little of this ‘Ted Lasso’ vibe in our everyday lives and you’ve certainly put a pep in our step. So, thank you and wish you all the best.”

Meanwhile, “Floodlines” producers took home the Podcast/Radio award. “Asian Americans” were feted in the Documentary section, and ABC News’ “20/20’s Breonna Taylor” was celebrated in the News section category.

Last week (ends June 18), the Peabodys panel handed Ava DuVernay’s Array its Institutional Award, while newswoman Judy Woodruff received the Peabody Award for Journalistic Integrity.
