Ozark season 4: Will Jonah end up running the Navarro Cartel?

Ozark season 4 on Netflix is likely to be one of the most intense and nailbiting series yet, as tensions are high amongst the Byrde family. The family had no choice but to move out to The Ozarks after a money-laundering operation collapsed, and they had to flee a dangerous cartel. Fans are wondering what will happen to the main cast in season 4, and they believe young Jonah Byrde (Skylar Gaertner) may find himself deep within the inner circle of the Navarro cartel.

Season four of Ozark has not yet been officially confirmed, but fans are already calling for more episodes as they are keen to find out what happens to the Byrde family.

Jonah is one of the main characters in the series and is the son of Marty (Jason Bateman) and Wendy (Laura Linney), and brother of Charlotte (Sofia Hublitz).

He is a smart child who should not be underestimated, and he is familiar with the violent deeds and unforgiving nature of the Navarro drug cartel.

Jonah is very headstrong for his age and has been able to store thousands of pounds of cartel money in offshore bank accounts.

Fans are wondering whether his skills with money will be utilised by the drug cartel in a new series.

By the end of season three, Wendy and Marty were working for Navarro (Felix Solis), which will inevitably bring him closer to the inner circle of the cartel.

He was left broken following the death of his uncle Ben Davis (Tom Pelphrey) and he feels the need to get revenge after his mother organised the hit.

Jonah is likely to become one of the main antagonists in a new series, and fans are already aware of his ‘dark horse’ nature.

Fans have taken to Reddit to discuss Jonah’s future involvement with the cartel, and they believe he may even end up leading the operation in the future.

Jcdv333 said: “Jonah is one of my favorite characters and they set him up really well in the second season to carry the torch, so to speak, of what Marty does.

“In season three I was disappointed in his role because I would have liked to see more of him. There’s so much they could do with his character.

“In a perfect world for me, Jonah will end up running the Navarro Cartel.”

Other fans have jumped on the theory, saying it would be brilliant to see Jonah rising through the ranks and even outsmarting his parents.

Andrenicoles said: “Wow this sounds fascinating! Actually on its first season I could sense that there is something more with Jonah than meets the eye.

“The director has been building up his character, it’s just that on the last season emphasis was put on Ben.”

Other viewers have noticed the potential assassin in Jonah, and feel he may use his hidden talents to his advantage in a new series.

JoeyDubs7 said: “I was watching the episode where Jonah kills his first deer with Jacob/Marty/Buddy. And the more I see his character build – I could see him becoming almost an assassin/sharpshooter for the Byrdes/Navarro.

“I could see a situation in which Marty and Wendy realize that someone needs to be killed. And they realize the only person they could trust and to get the job done is Jonah.

“It’ll be an older Jonah but it would be an incredible plot if Marty has to ask his son to kill on his behalf.”

Fans have pointed out the one character who has been key to Jonah’s development throughout the series is Buddy (Harris Yulin) – a former helicopter pilot in the Vietnam War.

The suspected retired mobster had a unique background and his stories managed to rub off on a young Jonah, who considered him to be a best friend.

PushtheRiver33 said: “I find it really interesting that the catalyst for his initial character development was Buddy.

“Without that key friendship, he might’ve stayed the quiet, strategic-minded kid, but now when we see Jonah he is usually/ironically holding a gun. Can’t wait to continue watching this kid grow up.”

If the Byrde children are to continue having main roles in a new series, there must be some element of character development in order to let them shine.

Viewers have suggested Jonah may be the one to bring the entire family operation crashing down, as he has studied the intricacies of the money-laundering operation from the start.

Fans have shown respect for Jonah for embracing the family situation, saying he and Wendy are the two characters who “get stuff done” throughout the series.

One fan said on Twitter: “You can’t be in the life and not want to live the life #Ozark.”
