A couple have thanked Good Morning Britain presenter Ranvir Singh for saving their lives after appearing on the latest series of Eat Shop Save. The show is now in its fifth series and it appears Ranvir has well and truly excelled herself.
The first guests to feature on the show, Michelle and Niel, hail from Dudley and are madly in love. However, having met later on in life, they’re determined to lose weight so that they can enjoy the years they have left together.
“They felt like they had to make changes to their lives and health, otherwise they would be robbing themselves of what time they had left,” said Ranvir. “That’s why they applied for the show.”

Ranvir admitted that going back for the reveal with Michelle and Neil was her personal highlight from filming the fifth series. She also opened up about just how much the couple appreciated the show’s help.
“Michelle said to me, ‘I can honestly say you’ve saved our lives. If we had carried on the way we were going, if we hadn’t changed our food habits, it would have killed us. We want to grow old together and you’ve given us a chance.’ That was amazing,” she said.
Neil and Michelle were in a desperate situation after doctors had warned both of them about the dangers of their lifestyle choices. When Ranvir first met the couple they were snacking on chocolate and cakes everyday and opting for takeaways several times a week.
Their bad eating habits had taken a toll on their health, with Neil’s doctor warning him he had high cholesterol and Michelle’s doctor advising her to lose weight.
After some help from top chef and nutritionist Dale Pinnock, Michelle learns that she’s consuming 819 grams more than the recommended combined weekly intake of sugar and fat. With serious consequences looming should she continue, it was vital the pair switched up their food choices.
Another concern for the couple was money. Desperate to book a special trip for Neil’s 50th, they couldn’t see it happening due to struggles over saving money.
However, savvy shopper Kate Hardcastle revealed that the couple could save an eye watering £5000 per year if they dodged the confectionary aisle and ditched the takeaways.
When Ranvir and the team returned after the couple’s 8-week journey, they smashed that target and saved a whopping £1000.
Not only did the changes boost their bank balance, it also tightened their waistlines with Michelle losing an impressive 10 pounds – just shy of one stone.
