If you get your daily music fix via Sonos then there’s some incredibly exciting news. The US audio firm has just rolled out a blockbuster update, which brings endless hours of music to its speakers without costing a penny extra.
Dubbed Sonos Radio, the new music streaming service launched this week and offers owners of these connected speaker systems the chance to stream thousands of stations throughout their homes.
Sonos says that its new streaming platform brings together more than 60,000 radio stations from multiple streaming partners with all tastes being catered for. Along with the usual mix of music, there’s also original programming from Sonos and a team of curators, DJs and artists are also handpicking their favourite tracks for the ultimate playlists.
Sonos has been able to release this radio service for free with the help of adverts but as long as you don’t mind the odd sponsored message popping up it’s a good way of listening to music without facing a big monthly streaming bill.

“Sonos has always made it easy for customers to discover the riches of streaming music services by building premium products that sound great and by giving customers the freedom to use the services of their choice,” said Patrick Spence, Sonos CEO.
“Sonos Radio brings together streaming radio services and a select set of curated radio stations in a simple, elegant way. This is just a beginning as we work to deliver services that provide our customers a better experience, and provide our music streaming service partners an opportunity to highlight their best content.”
Sonos has confirmed that its global internet radio stations will be available for all customers worldwide. However, Sonos’ original programming will only be available in certain areas which, to start, include the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, and Australia.
If this big update sounds of interest then you’ll need to upgrade your Sonos system first. From the Settings tab, tap System > System Updates > Check for Updates.
Once that’s all done you’ll find Sonos Radio in the “Browse” section of the app with a simple list offering easy access to all of the stations.
