Let's start with the Oaks, where SNOWFALL (4.30 Epsom) can give Aidan O'Brien yet another win in the race.

She wasn't exactly a world-beater as a two-year-old, but she has clearly thrived over the winter and was a decisive winner of the Musidora at York last month.

She was given a canny ride on the front-end that day, but she quickened up smartly when asked to stretch and she galloped powerfully through the line.

The daughter of Deep Impact is bred to improve with age and the extra furlong and a half of the Oaks will suit her down to the ground – it certainly didn't do her Arc-winning aunt Found any harm.

O'Brien was on record earlier this year saying that Snowfall had improved mentally and physically this year and that she could "take off" over middle distances.

I'm hoping that's the case, especially in a field full of suspect stayers. And, needless to say, having Frankie Dettori in the saddle on a big occasion like this is obviously a bonus.

Earlier on the card, PYLEDRIVER (3.10 Epsom) can bag his first Group 1 in the Coronation Cup.

He is a big, gross horse who was badly in need of the run on his reappearance when a solid second in a muddling Jockey Club Stakes at Newmarket.

He had plenty of strong form last season, including a ready win in the Great Voltiguer (thumping both Mogul and Highland Chief) whilst carrying a penalty.

He didn't quite get home when third in the St Leger and was over the top when midfield on bottomless ground in the Champion Stakes thereafter.

The only real blemish on his record was in last year's Derby, but he was badly hampered and almost brought down in the early stages, so his race was over before it had really started.

Japan has never been the most convincing and was made to work hard by Trueshan (who was carrying a 5lb penalty) at Chester, while Al Aasy was visually impressive at Newbury but the form is suspect.

Pyledriver is bang there on form and official ratings and looks overpriced.

Friday selections (advised odds correct at time of writing)

FRIDAY

3.10 Epsom – Pyledriver 1pt WIN @ 10-1

3.45 Epsom – You're Hired 0.5pts EW @ 16-1

4.30 Epsom – Snowfall 1pt WIN @ 9-2

  • (Column started August 6) rolling P&L: +57.9pts

I'll also be having a few quid each-way on YOU'RE HIRED (3.45 Epsom) in the big £50k Cazoo Handicap.

He'll probably line up as one of the outsiders of the field, but he has plenty in his favour.

Particularly the fact he arrives here fresh – his form figures first-time-out read 210231 (the only blip coming on bottomless ground).

He has yet to win off a mark in the 90's, but he has run several good races off similar ratings in the past, including a fine fourth in last year's Cambridgeshire off 1lb higher.

He is well drawn in three and gets the fast ground that he craves and he has the balance to cope with this track; he's won around Goodwood and handled the camber fine when fifth in this race last term (having been bumped early and lit up, pulling his chance away).
