The truth about Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani’s rough patch

Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton are one of the biggest power couples in the music sphere. After the two musicians started dating in 2015, they’ve shared plenty of love for each other on social media and sparked rumors about engagements and marriage plans. But no relationship is perfect, no matter how famous you are.

Case in point: During the coronavirus pandemic, an insider told Us Weekly that the two stars have supposedly been “stretched to the limit” during the quarantine. And who hasn’t? Still, it sounds like their relationship is still on solid ground. “They feel suffocated and stressed,” the source claimed in September 2020. “They’re both stretched to the limit.”

The report came after the musicians and their kids spent a good portion of the COVID-19 quarantine in Oklahoma at Shelton’s ranch, Us Weekly explained. It turns out that the stress is reportedly coming from their impending move, which is pretty understandable. Moving is always a pain, but especially during a pandemic, it’s not something many look forward to doing. So what’s really going on here? Let’s examine the truth about Shelton and Stefani’s relationship.

Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani have a lot on their plate

Back in May 2020, Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton bought a $13 million mansion in Encino, a Los Angeles neighborhood. And while moving is exciting, it’s stressful, too. “Friends say this move has turned into a nightmare,” a source claimed to Us Weekly. “This is the toughest period they’ve had so far without a doubt.”

But just because they’re reportedly stressed, it doesn’t mean their relationship is on the rocks. Stefani and Shelton did buy a house together, after all! And they’ve been together for five years as of this writing, so they probably have experience in conflict resolution with each other.

“They know how to compromise,” the source said to Us Weekly, adding that the couple can “work through any tension and look at the bigger picture.” That sounds like a pretty solid relationship if you ask us. (Plus, the two of them were all smiles when Stefani talked about their quarantine in a promo for The Voice.)

Blake Shelton talked about quarantining with Gwen Stefani

Although moving might be causing some stress for the couple, it sounds like their quarantine experience has been positive overall. “You wake up and look at the news and you’re starting to realize that this quarantine is not working out too well for a lot of people who are finding out they didn’t, they don’t like being around each other as much as they thought they did, which is terrible,” Shelton said during a July 2020 interview with SiriusXM (via Billboard). “She and I have experienced the opposite, you know, and we’ve been having a blast.”

Shelton and Stefani also appeared together in promos for the Academy of Country Music Awards, and they look happier than ever. The couple is performing their song “Happy Anywhere” at the awards ceremony, and the quarantine has given the lyrics a new meaning for fans. It’s one thing to say, hypothetically, that you and your partner could be happy together no matter where you were, and another to be happy together when you have no choice but to stay at home all day. If the musicians’ relationship has survived quarantine, there’s a good chance it’s pretty strong.

Are Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton considering marriage?

In June 2020, Us Weekly reported that Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani wanted to tie the knot after the COVID-19 pandemic. “COVID-19 has turned their world upside down, as it has with so many families,” a source told the magazine. “Gwen knows she is blessed and wants to have the wedding as soon as social distancing guidelines are lifted.”

Although the coronavirus pandemic is ongoing, other celebrities, like Niecy Nash and Jessica Betts, as well as Lily Allen and David Harbour, have also tied the knot during the pandemic. Stefani and Shelton aren’t engaged just yet, but it could be on the horizon for the couple.

Speaking of marriage, Us Weekly reported that Stefani wanted to have her marriage to Gavin Rossdale annulled within the Catholic church before marrying Shelton, but it sounds like things might have changed. And while Stefani might not be waiting for her first marriage to be annulled, there is one thing she’s waiting for: eased restrictions on social distancing. “Gwen wants to have a ceremony and reception with their family and friends. She didn’t wait this long to get married with family watching on Zoom,” a source claimed to Us Weekly. “It has made her realize that waiting for the annulment at this point is just futile because it could take years for the church tribunal to issue the decision.”

Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani support each other

When they started dating in 2015, Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani had both been through messy (and public) breakups. Stefani and Gavin Rossdale’s divorce came after reports that he’d allegedly had an affair with the couple’s nanny, with the singer reportedly finding text messages between her ex and the nanny on the family iPad, which was reportedly linked to Rossdale’s iCloud account.

Shelton, meanwhile, was married to fellow country star Miranda Lambert until they, too, parted ways in 2015. He and Stefani both had to deal with incessant media speculation about their previous relationships, so it makes sense that The Voice co-hosts would find comfort in each other’s company.

Shelton also seems to be happy to be in Stefani’s kids’ lives. The No Doubt singer has three sons with her ex-husband, and the boys had a sweet cameo in Shelton’s music video for “I’ll Name the Dogs.” In May 2020, Stefani also shared an Instagram photo of herself, Shelton, and her son, Apollo, feeding baby hogs, and it’s just plain adorable.

Whatever stress the pandemic and their move have caused, Shelton and Stefani have each other’s backs (and her kids’ backs, too). Don’t be surprised if they tie the knot before you know it!
