Samsung has – without any fanfare at all – revealed a brand-new Galaxy device. This week, the South Korean technology firm unveiled the all-new Galaxy Tab S6 Lite without an online event or so much as an advert on its official YouTube channel to show-off the tablet. Samsung describes the device as a “stylish and affordable tablet designed for both work and play”.
But at first glance you could be forgiven for thinking this was the latest tablet from one of Samsung’s biggest rivals. The Galaxy Tab S6 Lite appears to take a number of design cues from Apple’s 2018 iPad Pro reboot.
From the minimal bezels on the front, to the selfie camera hidden away inside the curved borders around the screen – the new tablet could give you a sense of deja vu.
This new addition to the Galaxy range is a cheaper version of last year’s Galaxy Tab S6. But the Lite model includes one design change over its predecessor which brings it even more in line with Apple’s flagship tablet.
With the latest Samsung offering, the vertical rear-firing camera of the Tab S6 is gone – in favour of a square-shaped camera module that bears more than a passing resemblance to the backside of the new Apple iPad Pro.

This by no means is the first time design choices that appeared on one piece of must-have tech has crossed over to a rival – and it won’t be the last.
Apple’s iPhone X introduced the world to the notch, with different takes on this featuring on a slew of subsequent rivals like the Google Pixel 3 and Huawei P20 Pro. While borrowing features that appeared on competitors’ devices is also the name of the game in the smartphone business.
Reverse charging, which first appeared on the Huawei P20 Pro, has since featured on Samsung phones and is rumoured to be coming to this year’s iPhone 12.
