With Love Island season well and truly underway, a new batch of Islanders are looking to find love in a brand new Mallorcan villa.
And while the singletons may be soaking up the sun around, it turns out that you don’t have to be on the popular ITV2 show in order to spend time making moves around the firepit or discussing your type on paper on the balcony.
In fact, Donna Sykes, 51, from Wigan has added some Love Island luxury to her garden. Here she tells OK! how she created the Love Island villa look at home…
“I’ve been a fan of Love Island since series three when my daughter told me to start watching the show. Since then I’ve been hooked and I’ve watched every episode so far this season – I just can’t get enough of the drama and romance.
When it comes to Love Island, I’ve always been interested in the villa’s vibrant interiors. It reminds me of being on holiday in the Mediterranean and I love the refreshing vibe, bright white walls and pops of colour.
I started transforming my garden in the first lockdown in 2020, just like a lot of other people in the country. I live with my husband and our 19 year old son and we decided that if we couldn’t go anywhere, we may as well transform our outdoor space and give ourselves somewhere nice to relax outside of the home.
It was my job to design the entire space and from the get-go I knew immediately that I wanted to bring a little bit of Mallorcan sunshine to Wigan. I drew the design on a piece of paper and gave it to my husband and his friend who built and decorated it together.
All in all, I think we’ve spent £5000 to £6000. We started off by building the decking and rendering a wall, which is where a lot of the money was spent as our garden is quite steep and we had to make sure that everything was flat.
Before we started the work, the garden was so uneven that there wasn’t even space to put a table!
I bought a lot of things for the garden online and on the high street. I bought my sun loungers for £200 from ManoMano and then I added bright blue cushion toppers to them which were £20 each.
I then decided that I was going to have a blue parasol to match and I picked that up from The Range. In keeping with this year’s Love Island theme, I added some more pink and yellow cushions which I got online last month.

Elsewhere, the plants are from various garden centres and my plant pots are from B&M and I spray painted them white. The rattan furniture set was a few hundred pounds and then the outdoor dining set was a similar amount.
In true Love Island style, we had a hot tub on the deck for a while, but it stopped working so we had to get rid of it in the end. And while we may not have a swimming pool, we do have a small pond complete with a water blade fountain, which I think is my favourite part of the garden.
In an ideal world, I’d also love a firepit but I’ve got grandchildren so I don’t think that’d be a very safe idea for the time being!
I’m not finished yet as it’s an ongoing project that we’ve been working on for two years and I’ve got a few more things that I’d like to add.
I’m currently looking to add some coloured strip lights around the seating area, just like how the villa has neon lights dotted around the decking. I’m also going to get a white pergola built at the bottom of the garden where I can add some festoon lights, too.
I’ve received a lot of compliments on my garden and I couldn’t be happier with how it’s turned out. I love going outside and I find that I’m able to relax straightaway. My garden backs out onto lots of trees, so it’s easy to sit on the decking and forget that you’re in Wigan.
I shared a picture of my garden in a Love Island fangroup and I got over 3,000 likes on the picture and hundreds of comments from Love Island fans who really liked what I’d done and joked about coming round to watch the series – I’ve got an outdoor projector and hopefully the weather will be nice enough to hold a party for the final.”
