‘Furious’ customers as Sainsbury’s shakes up Nectar card offers – ‘why are they missing’

Sainsbury’s Nectar card is just one of the loyalty schemes available in the UK which sees customers collecting points through food shops and fuel. Points can then be transferred into vouchers to spend on days out, cinema as well as discounts in store.

Nectar card holders can earn points every time they shop at Sainsbury’s, earning one point for every £1 spent in stores and online.

Customers can also get one point for every litre of fuel purchased in Sainsbury’s fuel stations as well as through hundreds of retailers.

Points can be spent with Nectar partners such as Sainsbury’s, Argos and Vue Cinemas.

Nectar points can also be claimed at Caffè Nero, Sky Store as well as being collected on train tickets including Avanti West Coast and LNER.

The supermarket revamped its loyalty scheme in 2019 to offer shoppers weekly, personalised bonus point offers via the app and website. 

The offers were targeted around customers’ shopping habits.

However, Sainsbury’s customers could see weekly bonus point offers phased out as many were left confused as they weren’t appearing in their accounts. 

Taking to social media to share their thoughts, many complained over the missing offers.

One person said: “@nectar, have Sainsbury’s offers retired? I haven’t had any for two weeks.”

Another wrote: “@nectar, why have I not got any new offers on the app these past two weeks?”

One shopper Tweeted: “I am furious @nectar, the offers are usually really helpful, why are they missing?”

Sainsbury’s has also changed the wording on its website this week to remove the reference to offers being sent “every week”. 

It has also confirmed that it is making amendments to reflect its new focus on sending shoppers more personalised offers. 

A spokesperson for Sainsbury’s, which owns Nectar, said: “We regularly review the promotions available through our Nectar app to ensure customers are always receiving personalised, valuable offers.

“As part of this process, some offers may be currently unavailable for a small number of customers and we apologise for any inconvenience.”

Sainsbury’s hasn’t yet confirmed how many of its 18 million Nectar point customers have and will be affected.

In other news, Tesco last year warned that millions of customers were not using up their Clubcard vouchers.

With vouchers easily lost and forgotten about, there is a simple way to check for any unused vouchers, dating back two years.

How can you check if you have any unspent vouchers?

Firstly customers must be registered for a Tesco.com account and need to log in to the Tesco Clubcard site.

You need your email address, password and Clubcard number to access your account.

Once on the site, click on ‘my Clubcard account’ and then ‘vouchers’ on the left-hand side and there will be a table listing the vouchers that still need to be spent. 

If shoppers want to spend them online, then the code on the voucher can be imputed at checkout.

To spend in store, the vouchers can be printed to be used instantly.
