Everything you need to know about Olympic medallist Matty Lee and he signs up for Im A Celeb

Matty Lee is just one of the celebrities signed up for this year’s I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here.

When he’s not slumming it in the name of our entertainment, you’ll likely find the gold medal-winning Olympian training in the pool.

The 23-year-old diver was most recently seen competing with Tom Daley at the Tokyo Olympics where they were awarded the highest achievement.

Matty is Tom’s diving partner for the synchronised diving events where both must execute their dives in perfect unison.

The athletics champ has spoken previously about he evolved into the role after being a fan of Tom’s as a child, saying: “It’s so weird how everything turned out!”

Revealing how he first became aware of Tom, Matty said: “I started diving when I was 7 and I think he was in the limelight since he was 13 and went to the Olympics when he was 14 and was a world champion when he was 15.

“So pretty much straight away I was a huge fan of his because I was in his sport, so I was looking up to him."

The diver noted: “I had multiple photos with him and I’d get him to sign a poster…”

After getting into diving with his brother, Matty has said it was an honour to begin working with Tom as his diving partner three years ago after competing in competitions previously on his own.

“We’ve only been in syncro for two and a bit years,” said Matty. “Tom wanted to sync with me but I still had to learn a new hard dive and I got asked to move my life from Leeds to London to start doing syncro with Tom I was like ‘God!’.

"And I learnt the dive as quick as I could and have not regretted it since.”

Speaking about his I’m a Celeb signing, a source close to the young athlete told The Sun that he can’t wait to take on some fresh challenges in the castle.

A source said: “Matty became one of the most talked-about names in the Olympics Games this summer.

“There had been some talk of getting Tom on board before but after his performance in the Olympics Matty became a hot favourite and his diary was free. The timing was perfect.

“Matty is young, strong and will thrive under the pressures of the challenges.

“He is really excited about getting on board and diving into the action.”

After Australia failed to give the show the green light for travel, the show will take place once again in Gwrych Castle in Wales.

I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here kicks off Sunday November 21 at 9pm.
