Richard Madeley certainly had viewers talking as he returned for a guest presenting gig on Good Morning Britain on Thursday.

The 65 year old discussed serious topics such as the coronavirus vaccine and the government's traffic light system with his co-host Charlotte Hawkins, but viewers couldn't help but compare him to comedy icon Alan Partridge.

Scores of viewers compared Richard's presenting style to the fictitious character, played by Steve Coogan, based on a failed broadcaster attempting to revive his career.

"I can no longer tell if Alan Partridge is based on Richard Madeley or if Richard Madeley is based on Alan Partridge," one person tweeted.

Another noted on Twitter: "It is now impossible for Richard Madeley to not simultaneously trend with Alan Partridge."

A third added: "Richard Madeley gets more like Alan Partridge every time he's on the telly #GMB."

A fourth wrote: "Richard Madeley actually 'IS' Alan Partridge. He's been brilliant again this morning talking about a Bear attack. Comedy gold .. without trying."

"There's something distinctly Alan Partridge about Richard Madeley!! #GMB," it was added.

However, others didn't welcome the return of Richard, with one annoyed person tweeting: "Richard Madeley is presenting GMB. It's just like watching Alan Partridge. He's so tacky."

Another viewer added a series of facepalming emojis, with the note: "Why oh why did we get Richard Madeley #GMB."

Someone else wrote: "#GMB how awkward was that interview! I found Richard to be extremely rude to be quite honest. Just let people speak for godsake!!"

"Time to turn off @gmb can't stand Richard Madeley #GMB," another wrote.

Meanwhile, Richard appeared to reveal a snippet of new information about Piers Morgan's Good Morning Britain exit during the episode.

He alluded that Piers had plans to leave the breakfast programme for a period of two months before his shocking exit back in March.

Discussing his return, the excited broadcaster, whose last appearance on the show was in March 2020, told his co-host: "I was meant to come back in April and May because Piers was meant to be going to America.

"So I would have been sitting alongside you quite a lot then, but all that went west, and here I am."
