Strictly Come Dancing professional Neil Jones, 38, last took to the dance floor in 2019 with celebrity dance partner Alex Scott, 36. Speaking exclusively to, he said he felt disappointed he couldn’t get her to the semi-final.

The dancer was asked if Janette Manrara was gutted that she didn’t win the 2020 series with partner HRVY, after she reached her furthest point in the competition with a celebrity so far.

The dancing duo missed out on the Glitterball trophy to Oti Mabuse and Bill Bailey.

He said: “I think it was her first musicals week, she had never gone past the quarters.

“No I don’t think she was gutted at all, I think she was over the moon. She was really proud of HRVY.

“I think for any pro, the feeling you get of disappointment is for your celeb.

“It doesn’t matter how far you get, you want them to go one step further.

“I got Alex to the quarter finals, I wished I had got her to the semi-final.

“If we had got to the semi-final, I would’ve wished we had got her to the final.

“If we had made the final, I wished we had won it.

“We’re competitors, that’s just our nature but whoever wins, we’re always happy for them.”

Oti became the show’s reigning champion after she won for the second time with Bill, following her victory with Kelvin Fletcher in 2019.

Last series, the show also made history with their first same-sex pairing; Katya Jones and Nicola Adams.

The pair’s journey came to an end after the former tested positive for coronavirus.

Discussing the show’s change, Neil added: “I think it was really good to see, it was great, Nicola is such a positive person.

“She just had a smile on her face all the time. With her and Katya you can see there’s a friendship there for life.

“And, it was disappointing but we all knew it could happen, that’s what we signed up for.”

The dancing duo performed for one last time in the final after the professional self-isolated.

In the same chat, Neil said he would love to dance with Meghan Markle on the show.

He said: “We all get excited if there’s anyone there from royalty, maybe if Meghan wants to come and give it a go.

“That would be great, I’d never watched Suits before and I’ve been watching Suits, so Meghan come on, let’s do it!

“[Prince] Harry likes the show, so maybe he can push her into it.”
