Kate Garraway became “emotional” as she and her two children took their first holiday without her Covid-stricken husband Derek Draper.
The doting mother, 54, took advantage of the children’s half-term break to fit in a visit to her extended family in Cornwall, but due to his illness Derek had to remain at home in North London.
TV presenter Kate, who recently slammed the government's Covid response, shared a sweet video of daughter Darcey, 15, and son Billy, 11, playing football together with her parents as the sun set behind them.
Kate admitted to mixed emotions. She said that this was the first time she had been able get away since Christmas 2019 after her husband Derek, 53, was hospitalised last year when he contracted coronavirus.
In her post she thanked Derek's parents and sisters for stepping in to support Derek's nurses while she was away.
Alongside the touching video, she wrote: "Paradise Thanks to the wonderful mum dad & sisters draper for coming down to be with Derek (with nurses too of course) so I could take my mum dad, Darcey & Billy to Cornwall.”
The Good Morning Britain host also thanked the car manufacturers Peugeot for lending her a car to take her family down in after her husband’s vehicle was cruelly stolen outside their house last year.

“None of us have been able to get to see each other since Xmas 2019. So much love & v emotional – not that is made our annual football match any less competitive!!!
“Hope you have all had a great #halfterm xxx #specialmemories.”
Kate's husband contracted the deadly virus in March 2020 and was placed into an induced coma after he was left with clots in his lungs, holes in his heart and diabetes.
His symptoms were so severe that he had to remain in hospital for more than a year, and although he is now continuing his treatment at home, there is still a long way to go in his recovery.
Kate, who recently revealed that the medication doctors feared could have killed him would have actually helped him, gave a candid update on Derek’s recovery on BBC’s The Andrew Marr show last month from home via a video link.
Kate told viewers: “He came home on April the seventh so we’re a few weeks into it now. How is he? Look, he’s devastated by Covid.
“He can’t really move, his communication is very minimal. There are moments where there’s up, you feel you know he’s in there. He has a lot of memory.
“But the accessing of it is very limited. He’s a long way from the Derek Draper that you know Andrew but he’s home and he’s alive, he’s asleep now.”
