Alison Hammond has left her fans confused after she questioned why the UK is still in lockdown despite the old and vulnerable being vaccinated.

The This Morning host, who was recently left mortified after asking Graham Norton about his dead dog, took to Twitter to ask the "genuine question".

The 46 year old penned: "Genuine question!! If all the old and vulnerable have been vaccinated, why are we still in lockdown? am i missing something?"

Alison's comment annoyed some of her followers who reminded her that two vaccinations need to be given.

The television presenter's This Morning co-star Dr Ranj responded to her: "Lots of reasons – we need as many people to be vaccinated as possible for maximum protection (including for old people) and we have to stay in lockdown until numbers are down significantly."

One fan wrote: "They've only had 1 of the 2 jabs so not fully vaccinated yet!" with Alison adding: "I totally forgot about the 2nd jab."

One angry Twitter user expressed: "It's scary that uninformed people like you are afforded exposure to the public on television."

"Because all the old and vulnerable have not been vaccinated. The current vaccines require two doses to be effective and those who have been vaccinated can still carry and spread virus," another follower explained.

Another frustrated follower wrote: "Really disappointing seeing someone so prominent asking such a question if only the elderly and vulnerable were getting sick/dying the entire WORLD wouldn't be on lockdown. They are priority but younger ppl with no underlying conditions are still getting extremely sick/dying."

The message continued: "I'm actually exhausted still having to explain this to people. This virus is random and unpredictable. It's affecting everyone differently. So naive to say only elderly or people with conditions will be sick. Long Covid is horrendous for so many also."

Alison respond to the tweet with: "arh babes so sorry my tweet has stressed you out ! maybe if you unfollow it may help with your stress levels."

Alison's tweet comes after she took over This Morning hosting duties on Fridays with co-host Dermot O'Leary.

The pair took over from Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford as they hosted their first episode on 8 January.
