If there are two things we can all agree upon, they are that “Friends” is one of the best shows of all time, and that Jennifer Aniston’s skin always looked flawless while she played Rachel Green. If you have ever wondered, as we have, how to achieve her natural flush, the good news is that Robin Siegel, department head of makeup for nine seasons of “Friends,” is spilling her secrets (via Harper’s Bazaar).
The bad news is that since the show went off the air nearly two decades ago — we know, it’s a tough reality — some of the products Siegel used on Aniston are no longer being made (via IMDb). But it’s okay — she can still coach fans on exactly how to get the pinched cheeks look we all associate with Rachel.
It turns out Siegel used a multi-layered approach to Aniston’s blush application, noting she first employed a cream and then a powder. Her favorite for the first step was La Prairie Radiant Cream Blush in plum or berry. But these creams have since been discontinued. Don’t despair too much, with Siegel saying she would recommend Kosas or Ilia creams instead. Then, go with Chanel’s Rose Pétale for the powder finish.
Technique is key to getting Jennifer Aniston's look from Friends
We aren’t all makeup artists, but luckily, we can benefit from their tips! In this case, Siegel told Elle in 2019 about applying blush to Lisa Kudrow as Phoebe Buffay that she recommends first blending a cream product into the apples of the cheeks. Then, set the cream with powder, and then add powder blush.
Of course, copying Aniston’s blush won’t look as flawless without the perfect canvas, with Siegel telling Elle about her go-to base application method, “I always love to choose a foundation colour that disappears on the skin and serves to marry all the colours of the skin as opposed to looking like a masque.”
She added, “Most of the time I used a brush to apply the foundation and blended with a damp sponge. For many seasons I used Cle de Peau Cream Foundation — still my favourite!”
