I'm a fashion whizz and there are six items which are making you look so frumpy… jeggings are so dated for one | The Sun

IF YOU want to avoid looking dated and frumpy it might be time to ditch a few items from your wardrobe.

According to fashion whizz Anna Reid the right outfit can make you look 10 years younger, but you've got to know what to look out for.

It doesn't matter if it's something you've had in your wardrobe for years or you bought it last week – frumpy is frumpy.

That's why it's importnat to know what actually suits and flatters your shape, the pro explained.

"There's really two main reasons you end up looking older than you are and kind of frumpy when you get dress," Anna said.

The first issue is too much fabric, which is an easy mistake to make when you get older.

The second reason is simply forgetting to keep up with what's on trend, which could look dated and dull.

Anna showed some outfits she'd avoid and how you can get a similar look without looking older than you are.

Boxy tops

You might throw on a boxy T-shirt when you don't know what else to wear because it's an easy option, but it's probably doing you no favours.

Although they might look comfortable there are plenty of more stylish options out there, and they won't make you look like you're stuck in 2013.

Large prints

A good printed dress is great in the spring and summer – but the size of the print can make all the difference.

A smaller print can help balance out your proportions but big prints do the opposite.

"Small florals don't tend to look dated as much as the larger ones can, they don't go in and out of style as much are the larger florals do and they can have more of a slimming effect."

Loose midi skirts

Midi skirts can be a hard one to get right because there's so much to take into consideration.

But the fashion whizz recommended avoiding any that come just below the knee, since they can make you look "dowdy" and dated.

A more fitted midi length skirt can look loads more youthful, Anna explained.

And if you love a more flowy fit – go longer or shorter!

Chunky shoes

They might be comfortable but they're one of the worst things you can put on your feet.

Something more sleek will stop you looking decades older than you are and can still be comfortable to wear.

Cropped trousers

If you trousers are cropped to your calves they're a big no-no as far as the fashion whizz is concerned.

"They're really not flattering on a lot of people," Anna said.

Instead, she suggested an ankle-length trouser which will instantly make your outfit look "more current" and will lengthen your legs.

Jeggings

"I would consider trading them in for some regular, traditional, classic skinny jeans," Anna said.

That doesn't mean you need to go for a rigid pair of jeans – you can still have the stretch and comfort of your jeggings, just in a more flattering denim style.
