Cindy Crawford’s 9 Skincare Secrets For Ageless Skin At 55

Cindy Crawford is an icon. I don’t care if you are a boomer, millennial, or anything in between you know who she is, what she looks like. She is probably one of the most recognizable supermodels to exist, and has looked practically the same over the span of the 40 years that she has been in the spotlight.

But, what about Cindy’s skin is more iconic than her signature beauty mark? Her ability to age so gracefully. At 55 years old, Cindy Crawford could easily pass for the older sister of her 19-year-old supermodel daughter, Kaia Gerber and her 21-year-old model son, Presley Gerber. Dare we say Cindy looks just as youthful as she did in her famous 1992 Pepsi commercial?

Of course, it helps that Cindy has had her skincare and makeup done by some of the most famous hands in the business: Kevyn Aucoin, Sonia Kashuk, and Hollywood esthetician Cristina Radu to name a few. That means she is quite knowledgeable about how to care for her own skin. She’s such a skincare pro, in fact, that she founded and developed her own skincare line, Meaningful Beauty, with Dr. Jean Louis-Sebagh in 2005.

When talking to Byrdie in 2020, Cindy stated, “I have learned that [skincare is] like working out. You work out once—you don’t really see a big difference. But if you work out regularly for years, you do. I think skincare is the same way. So I’ve made taking care of my skin part of my routine.” And according to Cindy, it’s “never too early, and never too late, to start taking care of your skin.” Want to know more about how she cares for hers, and the products that keep her face always looking radiant? First of all, she takes care of her body from the inside out.

“Looking good is about eating right, getting enough sleep and drinking lots of water,” Cindy said to CR. “Also, you have to get moving. I work out several times a week, and I hike and ride bikes.”

She believes that skincare is an investment.

“I’ve also learned that’s where you want to spend the money—anything that goes on your skin. So, skincare and foundation. You can get a less expensive mascara, you can get a less expensive lip gloss or nail polish, but anything that’s actually on your skin is worth investing in,” Cindy told Byrdie. Some of Cindy’s favorite splurge products include, Light-Expert Click Brush Liquid Foundation By Terry and Crème de la Mer lip balm.

She never over-plucks her eyebrows.

In this Vogue video, Cindy praised her younger self for not over-plucking her eyebrows, and shares how she passed this tip along to her daughter. She reveals, “one of my lessons that I’ve said to Kaia is don’t over-tweeze your eyebrows – you will regret it later!”

Every morning, she reaches for a serum.

In the 2020 interview with Byrdie, Cindy shared how Dr. Jean-Louis Sebagh “taught [her that] the daytime is about protecting your skin and then the nighttime is about restoring it.”

So what does her morning regime look like? When speaking to CR, Crawford remarked, “For my skin, it really is three to five products in the morning and about the same at night.” Every single day, at a minimum, she told Byrdie, she “cleanses” her skin in the shower, and “loves serums because you can get more potency.” She particularly likes to apply her serum while her “skin is still a bit damp” so that it penetrates even deeper. Her current favorite serum is none other than one from her Meaningful Beauty collection. “The newest [serum] in Meaningful Beauty is called the Youth Activating Melon Serum; the key ingredient is the melon leaf stem cells, and it has hyaluronic acid and peptides. So I definitely use a serum and put my day cream on,” she told Byrdie.

Her nighttime routine always involves retinol.

“Then at night, I always take my makeup off. And now [Meaningful Beauty has] a new night cream with retinol in it. And for cell turnover, especially as you get older, I think that becomes more and more important,” she told Byrdie.

She uses a special tool to de-puff her eyes.

When recording her morning beauty routine with Vogue, Cindy shared a trick for how to reduce puffy eyes: “I’ll show you a little secret that a makeup artist taught me, which are these [Glycelene Golden Ice Globes]. They are these little golden balls. And I like to put them in a glass of ice water. And they are so soothing,” Cindy said.

She hasn’t skipped a day of sunscreen since she was 19.

“I showed up tan to a photo shoot when I was 19, and was told that they couldn’t cover up a sunburn — I’ve protected my skin from the sun ever since,” she told Redbook.

She cares for her hair just as meticulously as she does her skin.

When Byrdie asked Cindy what she considers to be a good hair day, she shared, “clean, moisturized hair.” In a separate video interview with Byrdie, she continued, “Who knew our hair aged? Of course I knew I was going to have to color my hair as we get older, but just the texture changed. And I just have to give my hair a little bit more love. Loving Kevyn Murphy products right now. I use the shampoo and conditioner, but even if I try other shampoo and conditioners, I always [use] the leave in conditioner.”

Sleeping with a silk pillowcase helps both her hair and skin stay healthy.

“Lately I’ve discovered Slip silk pillowcases for sleeping. They keep my hair from getting frizzy at night and I definitely have less wrinkle lines from my pillow when I wake up!,” Cindy told CR.

And most importantly, she stays humble about the process of caring for her skin.

When being interviewed by Redbook in 2009, Cindy poked fun at herself and shared, “I always say even I don’t wake up looking like Cindy Crawford! What people see on magazine covers is one moment that was perfect — the wind, the light, the hair, the makeup. That’s a two-hour process. It’s good to have an awareness of that outside pressure, but I can’t let it get to my core,” she said.
